2021 Stagecoach Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
From the towering volcanic terrain eastern reaches of Napa, Stagecoach is among the most renowned vineyards in the valley. Like the gigantic boulders found in the vineyard itself, Stagecoach wines are robust and unhindered, characterized by notes of dense black fruit framed by firm, bold tannins. The vineyard’s enormous quantities of rugged rock mixed with hard volcanic soil imparts earthy notes and dark fruit on a powerful Cabernet Sauvignon.
Stagecoach Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon brings the presence of nearly 1,800 feet elevation piercing through the fog and the unforgiving rocky terrain to this wine. This exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon boasts aromas of strawberry compote, crème de cassis, pie crust, ripe black cherry and cola. Notes of boysenberry, raspberry leaf, earth, black tea, hazelnut and turbinado sugar alight on the palate. The opulent and rich body and chewy tannins, that are emblematic of this iconic vineyard, lead to a smooth and persistent finish.
Viticulture & Winemaking Notes
With over half of the varieties planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Stagecoach Vineyard is among the most renowned vineyards in the valley. The 2021 growing season marked a much-welcome return to ideal. Winter rains quenched the soil, setting the stage for dry weather the rest of the season. Over the summer, conditions stayed mild, giving the grapes the luxury of hanging on the vine. Harvest began early, producing low yields of small berries with intense flavor concentration and optimal ripeness.
Sourced entirely from the premiere Stagecoach Vineyard, the grapes were hand-harvested, hand-sorted and fermented in small open-top tanks. The wine aged for a total of 20 months in French oak (70% new, 30% used) to develop rich body and a smooth, persistant finish.
